15 Grand Slam title and the show is still going on. This is the achievement of 41 year old Indian Tennis Player. In the recently concluded Australian Open, Paes has demonstrated that if the spirit inside the body is young, the age of the body can never be the bar to win something as big as Australian Open Doubles. It is the same player, who in partnership with Mahesh Bhupati, won multiple grand slam titles for India and became the World’s No One pair.
Besides the grand slams, he has also won the Olympic Medal for India in 1996. Leander is one the privileged player who got the chance to play with the legendary players like Martina Navratilova and Martina Hingis. He had a long association with the former and won many mixed doubles title.
The flair for sports seems to in the blood of this great Indian. Both his parents had been players. His father is a former Olympic Hockey player while his mother had been a successful basketball player. The beginning of Leander’s tennis career was very modest. In 1985, he enrolled in a Tennis academy in Chennai and learned the unusual skills with his dedicated efforts. Five years later in 1990, he won the major international title -Wimbledon Junior. Subsequently, he became Number One in Junior world’s ranking. Since then, there has not been looking back. As the years rolled on, his hunger for more and more recognition and success intensified. Today he is standing on the mountain of the successful Tennis Career. His efforts and the contribution have been recognized all over the world. The Indian government has honoured this talented player with many awards- Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, Arjuna Award, Padma Shri etc.
